      ous
House lit up in the night
                                  When I laid my head
On its pillows awakened
With my face in its mirrors
        Windharps sung me as islands
                 suspended
On balustrades I was held rapt 
                               in its Atlantean palm
Which I would not see again for a hundred years
Downstairs Lee and Yvonne for Leon sing La Vie
        En Rose in harmony with the radio
I sit alone at the great table
       Before the picture-window sea with its surf
Of Autumn leaves rushing into the living-room
All I could imagine in that time was heralded in
              The moment that chose 
                                                  my life
For itself the morning that would begin always
With my new life in the kiss of a cloud
